How Does BOTOX® Work?

How Does BotoxYou’ve heard that BOTOX® helps with wrinkles, but how does it work? First we have to ask the question:

Why do I have wrinkles?
In addition to the natural breakdown of cells from exposure to sun and general aging, wrinkles also happen as a result of muscle contractions (expressions). As you move your muscles back and forth all day and night, your skin moves with them. This causes the skin to become loose over time and settle into unwanted patterns (worry lines, crows feet) that make patients feel like they look older.

Enter BOTOX®
BOTOX® comes from a chemical called Clostridium botulinum, which interrupts the signals that allow targeted muscles to receive signals to move. This means that the little muscles that push and pull your skin can be temporarily stopped, and your skin will remain in the state it is now, at least temporarily.

What is the process?
With a quick, painless appointment right here in our office, we can give you a BOTOX® treatment that will reduce the look of lines and wrinkles around the eyes and forehead for 3-4 months.

There’s a reason that BOTOX® is so popular!
