What are My Lip Augmentation Options?
Enhancing your smile through lip augmentation can improve the shape, contours, and fullness of your lips, taking years off your appearance. Several options are available At Inland Institute for augmenting your lips to meet each patient’s esthetic goals. Some are relatively temporary and use fillers, while others provide longer-lasting results using cosmetic surgery.
Lip Fillers
Fillers, or dermal fillers, are either synthetic or natural materials that are biocompatible and safe for use in the facial area. We offer several options, including Restylane® and Juvéderm® lines of products, which contains no collagen. It is based on a naturally occurring substance known as hyaluronic acid and shows impressive results almost immediately. The properties (thickness, density and viscosity) of the fillers are tailored according to the indication and approved by the FDA.
Autologous Fat Injections
Dr. Gilbert can selectively remove fat from another area of your body, such as the stomach, then prepare it for injection. This pure fat is injected into the lips to plump them up. The results can last for years and are often permanent as the fat integrates with existing tissue. Touch up injections may be desired as is the case with other fillers.
Lip Lift
A lift lip is a permanent solution for lips that have lost volume, shape or the fullness of youth. Excess skin between the nose and the corners of the mouth or between the nose and upper lip is removed. This lifts up the lips, resulting in a fuller appearance. Lip lifts are performed through a small incision and are considered minimally invasive. A lip lift is a preferred option in more mature patients for fuller, voluptuous lips that look natural and show off your teeth. Our website explains the process in detail on Dr. Gilbert’s Lip Lifts page.
Am I a Good Candidate for Lip Augmentation?
If your lips have thinned due to aging, are naturally thin, or droop at the corners, lip augmentation can help. Many procedures are reversible, if necessary, but all last anywhere from six months to a lifetime, depending on the procedure. If you are interested in lip augmentation, you will need to meet the following criteria:
- You are in good health.
- You’re a non-smoker or willing to quit before your lip enhancement.
- You don’t have an active infection or cold sores.
- You don’t have certain chronic health conditions such as Lupus or Diabetes.
- You have realistic aesthetic goals that Dr. Gilbert and the Inland Institute can safely meet.
Dr. Gilbert evaluates each patient’s aesthetic goals, reviews their medical records, and performs a thorough exam to determine whether they are a candidate and which procedures are best for the results they long for.
